Summer 2012 – It’s Still Happening on the Island

Sunny Bear

Well summer in the Oceanside Communities on Vancouver Island was a little late getting started but once it did it was packed with activities and we were fortunate to be there for many of them.

We made a special trip to Victoria to escort the Children’s Miracle Network mascott, Sunny Bear back to Parksville. Sunny Bear began his mid-Island tour at the RE/MAX Vancouver Island Children’s Miracle Network Golf Tournament at Morningstar Golf Course in Parksville.

The annual Parksville Canada Day Parade was a great way to kick-off the summer and Sunny Bear proudly rode our RE/MAX float to the delight of hundreds of children.

The last stop on Sunny Bear’s agenda was The Teddy Bear Picnic in Nanoose Bay – another great day for the kids. We, along with our fellow  Nanoose Bay Lions Club members began the day with a Pancake Breakfast (Ron & Peggy’s special recipe). Once again RE/MAX tents covered the field and a great time was had by all.

Of course it wouldn’t be summer on the Island without taking the kids/grandkids to our amazing Parksville/Qualicum beaches and our annual treks to see the “Goats on the Roof” in Coombs and of course the Sand Castle display.  So many farmers markets and all of them offering an abundance of delectable riches.  Oh and the “Fish-Fry” at the Nanoose Library was another great day.

Music is in the air at almost every event and we certainly took pleasure in the talents of our local artists. We had our first opportunity to attend the Filberg Festival in Comox and we’ll definitely be returning next year.

Our last fundraiser was the “Tastes of Land & Sea for Moorecroft Regional Park” This outstanding event took place at Northwest Bay Ranch – great music & spectacular food.

Our next fundraiser -”Nanoose Bay Community Services 3rd Annual Thanks for Giving Golf Tournament” at Farwinds Golf Course, Saturday, September 29th (still time to volunteer or submit a foursome).

Our little piece of “paradise” is a great place to spend your summer or as we chose to do –  the rest of your life.
